Story of shri surdasji :

Surdasji is a sarasvat bramhin who used to live in a small village named ' Sinhi.' near Delhi. In Nitya lila, Surdasji is one of the 8 main sakhas of shri thakurji and his name is 'Krushna sakha' The gopijans in nikunj lila have 2 swaroops......

(1) Purush bhav roop sakha and
(2) Stri bhav roop sakhi

All the 'ruchas' of vedas are shri gopijans (sakhis) whereas all the mantras in vedas are gopas (sakhas). So over here Surdasji also has 2 swarops. He is thakurjis sakha named 'krushna sakha' where as in nikunj lila. he is shri thakurjis sakhi named 'Champaklata sakhi'

Therefore, Surdasji has 3 swarops.....

(1) Krushna sakha (sakha roop )
(2) Champaklata ( sakhi roop )
(3) Surdasji ( as a sevak on bhutal )

There are 8 main dwars (doors) in shri Giriraj ji. The ashta sakhas are the mukhya adhikaris of these 8 dwars. They are nitya birajman here in their sakhi roop, and only after getting their permission, any jeev can enter these dwars. One of these 8 dwars is at Govind kund and to its front lies 'Parasoli Chandrasarovar.' Surdasji is the mukhya of this dwar.

STORY 1 :

Since birth, Surdasji was netra heen ( blind ). He didn't had eyes ( no cuticle, lens etc... He just had eyebrows ). Once Shri Gusaiji was going Nathdwara. At that time, Surdasji thought to join aapshri. While he was thinking this, Shri Girdharji came to him and gave aagya to stay in Shri Gokul for 2 days for shri Navnitpriyaji's kirtan seva. So Surdasji obeyed aapshri and did so....

Listening that Surdasli is not going Nathdwara, Shri govindraiji, Shri Balkrishnaji and Shri Gokulnathji came to Shri Girdharji and told that everyday in shri navnitpriyaji's seva, Surdasji sings pads and kirtans and describes the exact swaroop of shringar of lalan, So once we should do a very different and adhbhut shringar of shri navnitpriyaji and then we shall see how does surdasji describes such swaroop.....

Listening this, Shri Giridharji replied that, Surdasji is a bhagvadiya.... He has swaroop anubhav, So its not proper to test Surdasji. But the 3 balaks told that " Hamaro man hai, so ya mein kachu badha nahi" Shri Giridharji understood it to be thakurji's lila so they all agreed and decided that the next day, They all would offer a very different and adhbhut shringar to shri navneetpriyaji.....

The next day... all 4 balaks went in seva, They wokke Shri navnitoriyaji, offered mangal bhog, did snan to Shri navnitpriyaji and started doing shringar...

It was the day of Ashadh, so they decided not to offer any vastra to lalan, And they started doing shringar.... Over there, Surdasji was in jagmohaln... and he did darshan of Shri navnitpriyaji, and he saw that lalan was decorated with only 'moti' (pearls) and there were no vastra on shri ang....

Only 2 lars of moti on shri mastak, moti ke baju, kati kinkini noopur, haar sab motin ke, tilak on kapol (forehead), nakveshar, karnan ful and nothing else...

Surdasji was so much pleased to see this sundar and adhbhut swaroop of shri navnitpriyaji full of pearls, It was like small-small water droplets were shining on lalan's shri ang.... Seeing this Surdasji thought that " Jo lalan ne aisa adhbhut swaroop dharan kiya hai to muje bhi adhbhut pad ki rachna karni chahiyea.... " While he was thinking this, Shri Girdharji arrived there and told Surdasji to come and do darshan....

When they both arrived there, All the balaks were very enthaustic to see what kind of pad Surdasji would make.... Without saying anything, Surdasji started singing this pad....

" Dekho ri hari Nangam Nanga
Jalsut bhushan ang birajat basan
Hin chabhi uthat taranga................(1)

Ang ang prati amit madhuri nirkhi
Lajjit rati koti ananga
kilkat dadhi sut mukh lepan kari
'Sur' hasat brij yuvatin sanga...........(2)

After surdasji completed this pad, all the balaks were very pleased...... Then shri Girdharji himself took Surdasji to nathdwara.... Ozver there Shri Girdharji told to shri Gusaiji about what all happened and all balak's manorath was completed to do such sundar shringar of shri navnitpriyaji.... Listening this shri Gusaiji said "Surdasji ki kaha baat hai ? So bhagwat lila anubhav inko ashta prahar hai "

Story of Kumbhandasji....

Once Shri Thakurji ordered Shri Kumbhandasji that.. " Arey Oh Kumbhna...chal kahi khelne chale..." So Kumbhandasji obeyed and both started walking together....

After walking a certain distance, they both reached near tree... Shri Thakurji told... " Kumbhna tum us ped ke piche chup jao... Aur mere ishare ka intazar karo" So Kumbhandasji did so...

As soon as Kumbhandasji went, Thakurji started shouting... " Arey koi hai... Arey koi bachaaaoooo... Is kante ko mere charno se nikalo..."

One Gopi heard this... She was going to sell buttermilk and curd.... And in between she heard lalan.... That gopi quickly went near Thakurji and sai " Kya baat hai lala... Itna shor kyu macha rahe ho ??"

Thakurji pointed towards charan and showed that throne.... Tears were almost just going to come out now.... Gopi sat down, and softly placed lalan's shri charan on her lap...

By just having the glimpse of shri charan, she was lost in her own world.... Wo softly lalan ke komal-komal charno ko sehlaane lagi.... ek hath se charno ko sehlati gai, and dusre hath se kab kanta nikal gaya wo usko bho nahi pata chala aur lalan ko bhi pata nahi chala....

Even though the throne was removed, She was still in her own world... and was just starring lalan's charnarvind.... and wo sehlaye jaa rahi thi....

Lalan was wondering now what to do.... He cant tell her that let me go now..!!!! So thakurji saw Kumbhandasji and pointed towards buttermilk and then again pointed towards his own mouth....

Kumbhandasji understood what lalan wanted him to do. Thakurji wanted Kumbhandasji to take that matka and directly pour buttermilk in his mouth, before this gopi comes to know........But kumbhandasji wasent moving from there. He thought its too dangerous. What if she saw Kumbhandasji.... She would tell everyone that.... Lalan to hai hi natkhat, par ye Kumbhandasji bhi kuch kam nahi...hehehe....

Again Thakurji pointed... But nop... Kumbhandasji still wasent moving... Now Thakurji got a bit insecured that " Arey ye mera bhakt hoke meri hi baat nahi manta"

And yes that Gopi is still starring Thakurji's Shri Charan. She does not know whats happening around !!!!! Finally when thakurji pointed 3rd time, Kumbhandasji slowly moved out, took that matka and starte pouring buttermilk in Thakurji's shri mukh.

Lalan was very comfortable.... Both the charans in gopi's lap... and Kumbhandasji making him drink chash.

But on the otherside Kumbhandasji was very nervous that what if this Gopi saw him...

Now as our lalan is very small, itna chota sa mukh.... Us me itna saari chash kaise samaye.... To lalan ka mukh overflow ho gaya........

AUR SIDHI US CHASH KI PICHKARI GOPI KE MUKH PAR GIRI...hehehehe......

Her mind was disturbed now. She quickly looked up towards thakurji and angrily said " Arey lala !!! tum to bade hi dhith ho!!!! Mera faida uthaya "

Thakurji started laughing and said... " Arey mai to hu dhith... Par tum to swarthi ho... Mere charan pakad kar baith gai. Kabse sochu abh muje jane degi... ab muje jane degi pan tum to muje pakad kar hi baith gai..


Mere shram ke bare me socha hi nahi. Tum apna anand le rahi thi, aur chash aarogkar mai apna anand le raha tha"

Hearing these words... there was nothing left for her to say...She quitely stood up, without saying anything took her matka and started walking....

Now thakurji thought that " lagta hai maine kuch zyada bol diya..." After all thakurji's intention was not to hurt her...

So lalan called out for her and said... " Arey Oh pyariiiiii" Just as thakurji said "pyari" Her sadness was gone.... And thakurji continued saying.... " Kal se isi marg se jaya karna.... Teri chash to bohot swadisht hai "

She turned around and looked at thakurji... gave a soft and sweet smile.... And started thinking that today I was truely graced by Shri Thakurji.... Taking those few moments in her heart which she spent with lalan.... She moved ahead....

perhaps one of the things we get to learn from this is "Lo.. Lene Lag Gaye" ?

when in seva, the "anand" we sometimes enjoy is actually for thakorji's enjoyment and without considering His tat-sukh we are only thinking of ourselves, our enjoyment and our comfort and to satisfy our comfort we begin to take shortcuts in performing seva and start make compromises in His comfort

"lo lene lag gaye" is when one vaishnav is telling (hinting) the other - how you have already started taking/enjoying the "anand" that is meant to be enjoyed by thakorji...

example: when one has offered samagri for thakorji, and one accidently smells the samagri... enjoying the smell one comments, how delicious the samagri must be....

or when one is listening to kirtans and comments "wah.. how wonderful these kirtans are..." so that imples that we are enjoying the samagri or the kirtans which are actually meant for thakorji's enjoyment...

Oh o.k !!! I understood

Story : 2

There are many villages near the mount Govardhan. Amoung these... There was one village named " Sakhitara. " In this village, there lived one man named "Mangalya Pandey."

He got married. His wife was very beautiful. All the family members were very happy because Mangalya Pandey got such a nice wife. All used to say that " Ye bahu ke kadam to ghar ke liyea bohot hi shubh hai"

But after 5 to 7 days... One of their bufflow was lost in the jungle. They all tried to find that buffalow..... but nothing worked. Now the circumstances were such that all the family members thought that its all because of this Mangalya's wife. They all started saying that " Is ke kabam ghar ke liyea bikul bhi shubh nahi" ( As in that she is not lucky for this house. Because as soon as she came, their buffalow is lost ). This humour was spread in the whole village.

They all used to taunt her on each and every matter. Infact they used to give her less food because of this. Now this gwalini ( Mangalya's wife) is very upset. She felt that there was no one who could understand her. This husband whom she thought that atleast he would take her side also behaved like the other family members.

She thought that now only Devdaman ( Shrinathji ) is the only one who could understand her. And she took shriji's strong sharnagati and said " Hey Devdaman !! agar ye khoi hui bhesh mil jaye to mai aapko 10 sher makhan aarogau. Aap har kisi par kripa karte hai prabhu, to mera kya dosh hua jo muje ye sab sahan karna pad raha hai" Is tarha ki usne manat mangi.

As soon as shriji heard her words... that buffalow reached their house. It came running from the jungle. Again this thing was spread in the whole village that this family's lost buffalow had come back.

And again all started saying " Arey is ke kadam to badry hi shubh hai"

As soon as this gwalin heard these wods about " Shubh kadam " She became very angry...!!!! And thought that her family members are so selfish. It wasen't fault at all, even though she had to face so many things.

Now she had dradh ashray in Shrinathji's charan kamal that when no one was at her side, only Devdaman saved her. She was very toughed for what shriji did for her. But now it was the time for payback. She remembered about her makhan wali manta.

Now the actual intresting part starts...

It was very difficult for her to collect 10 sher makhan together. Also if anyone in the house came to know about this than it would be a big problem. So she decided that every day she would remove 1 sher makhan seperately for shriji. As she had to make 11 to 12 sher makhan every day, no one would come to know that 1 sher is missing.

Like this for 10 days she she kept one sher makhan seperately. And finally on the 10th day... 10 sher makhan was ready. Now the question is how to offer ????

She took the makhan of last 10 days in a seperate vessel and started moving out of the house....

But these neighbours uuffff.... As soon as she moved out, one of the neighbours said that... "Arey oh Pandey ki bahu !! Is bhari dupahri me kaha chali" She thought that if this neighbour would tell anything to any of the famly member than it was going to be a big problem. She turned back and again went inside

She started saying... " Hey Devdaman, ye kaisi pariksha hai. Yaha par makhan taiyar hai, par fir bhi mai aapke yaha aa nahi sakti.... Hey Devdaman aaj to aisi kripa kijiyea ki agar mai naa aa saku to kripa karke aap swayam hi ghar padhare. Bohot suna hai ki aap har koi gwalin ke ghar padharte hai, Har kisi ke ghar padharte hai,

AAJ MUJ PAR BHI KRIPA KAR KE KRIPA KIJIYEA"

Hearing her words.... Lalan started running from mount Govardhan. Over here this gwalin was experincing pangs of seperation. Suddenly she heard someone knocking the door " Knock knock - knock knock.

She thought that it might be her mother in law and thought now what to do !!! She quickly went inside the kitchen, removed that old 10 sher makhan and filled the new fresh makhan in that vessel.

Now she opened the door and what she saw was that it was " LALAN"

She wasen't able to speak even a word and just went on looking in the eyes... Than Thakurji caught her hand and said " Arey Gwalini.. hame andar nahi bulaogi kya !!!

She took the bajot and made thakurji birajmaan on it. Without saying a word she just went in the kitchen and took that fresh makhan. It was a very critical situatin because as soon as she would hand over the makhan, Thakurji would take and and go away. And she did not want to let this happen.

All the varities of bhavs she experienced in that one moment. The happiness that thakurji came, The sorrow that lalan would go away as soon as this makhan would be handed. Now what to do.... She thought its not good that thakurji goes away only in a few moments....

She started moving out of the kitchen, She was wishing that Shri Thakurji would take makhan in her own house and sat near Shri Thakurji. Both were looking into each others eyes. Just by one sight Shri Thakurji understood her manorath. Gwalini said " Chalo lala, hath aagey karo aur ye lo apna makhan "

She didnt told anything to thakurji about her wish for lalan to stay.... But as our thakurji does not need to hear any words to understand the bhav of his bhakt.... Shri thakurji himself told.... " arey Gwalini, Ye itna sara makhan mai akele kaise uthaunga. 10 sher makhan ka wazan mai kaise uthau... Ek kaam kar, isme se thoda makhan kam kar do..."

But Gwalini replied as if she had adhikar on shri thakurji.... " Dekh lala.... maine 10 sher makhan ki mannat mangi thi.... To 10 sher makhan to angikar karna hi padega..."

Thakurji started laughin and said...." Arey mai ye keh raha hu ki thoda makhan muje yahi par khila kar thoda kam kar do...hehehe.....

Hearing those words... She was like... Arey aaj to muj par badi kripa bhaiye hai...

She dipped her hand into that vessel and removed some amount of makhan and offered the first bite... Like this fed second bite.... then the third one.... She didnt knew how many bites she fed....But it was going on contineously..... Looking Shri Thakurji so close to her she became swaroop asakt....

Like this she kept on feeding thakurji.... After some time Thakurji realised that more than half of the vessel was over..... Now how to stop her....!!!!

Thakurji said " Arey Gwalini !!!! bus bus... "

Her mind was disturbed now..... And as soon as she stoped.... that moment she realised and remembered her mother in law and other family members..... She said.. " lala.. bohot der bhaiye, ab jaldi wapas jao. Agar ghar me koi aa gaya to bohot daat padegi. Jaldi ye makhan lo aur jao..."

Thakurji didnt like what she said and replied.... " Arey wah ri gwalin... Pehle bolti hai jaldi aao jaldi aao.... Ab bol rahi ho jaldi jao jaldi jao... Tum to badi swarthi. Apni mannat puri hui to jane ke liyea bo diya...!!!!"

Gwalin didnt said anything but her heart wispered that aap to hamare pran hai. Us ka bus chale to hamesha lalan ko apne paas hi rakhe..." Thakurji understood.

lalan took that vessel and stood up. Turned around and started walking..... Gwalin felt what situation is this....!!! I dont want thakurji to go away. Lalan is still walking and almost reached the door. Still she is standing at the same place and watching thakurji going away.... Just then thakurji turned around and looked at her.

Lalan understood that she wont be able to see him go away so again thakurji turned around and came back. Gwalini said... " kya hua lala ??? Wapis kyu mudey..."

Thakurji said... " dekh gwalin... ye to kitni galat baat hai ki tune muje makhan khilaya, aur mai tumhe khilaye bina hi chala jau... Nahi. Ye to nahi ho sakta !!!! Ab t mai bhi tumhe khilaunga....

Oh what a grace nai...!!!

Thakurji said... " Chalo apna mu kholo"
She opened her mouth.... But gain lalan said... " nahi aise nahi !!!! Pehle apni akhein bandh karo. Mai kisi ko khuli aakhon se nahi khilata"

She said.." Theik hai lala. Jaisi tumhari aagya" and she closed her eyes and opened her mouth...

1 minute...2 minutes...3 minuts... but nothig was going inside... Her eyes were still closed... She said..." lala!!! akhein kholu ???"

Thakurji replied..." nahi !!! ruko zara...."

Acha ab kholu ????

Nahi !!!!

Meanwhile thakurji took a lots of butter, spread it well in both the hands, and pura us gwalin ke mukh par laga diya aur jaldi jaldi bhag gaye... hehehe.....

Aur bhagte bhagte chilla rahe hai.... " Aery oh gwaliniiiiiii.... Tumhare gaal to makhan se bhi zyada mulayam hai.... hehehe....

Very sorry for a quiet long silence.... But yes was definately up to date with the new postings.... Actually i dont know many of such stories... That was the only reason for starting tis topic hoping more senior vaishnavas would elaborate...
I kindly appolagise....

Here is one story related to Ashta sakhas i reacenty came across....
And m searching for more vartajis related with "Shrinathji Charitramryt"
Hope all senior vaishnavas would elaborate and continue....



It was a day in "Parasoli" when Kumbhandasji was sitting besides a farm... And Shri Govardhan Nathi was playing different - different games and pranks with Shri Kumbhandasji....
Both were going through the alaukik moments of bliss...
Meanwhile it was the time of "Utthapan." As son as Kumbhandasji realised the time..... He quickly stood up and started walking towards the mount Govardhan.

So Shri Govardhan nathji asked... "Arey tu kaha jaat hai ???" - "Hey where are u leaving...???"

So Kumbhandaasji replied.... "Its the time for "Utthapan. I am going to mount Govardhan in Shrinathji's mandir... For "Shri Govardhan nathji's darshan...."

At that time Shrinathji replied... "Me tihaare paas to khelat ho.... Taaso tu uhaa kyo jaat hai..???"
meaning - "i am playing with you....
right here... right now...
Why are you going there...??"


Shri Kumbhandaasji humbely said... "Maharaaj !! You are playing with me right here... At this moment, Its because its "YOUR" wish and "YOUR" grace..... what if you suddenly run away from here... I won't be able to stop you....
And in the mandir at mount Goverdhan, you reside with the "kaani" of Shri Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharyaji... So you cant go anywhere from there... And over there Only because of Shri Mahaprabhuji....you give darshan to everyone....
So if you ran suddenly from here... Who would be able to stop you....
Its only the "kaani" of Shri Mahaprabhuji that bounds you....
And perhaps even my aasakti is to see you over there. And over here you are with me is only because of the grace of shri Vallabh.

"Ye sab mandir ki seva - darshan ke prataap so hai... Taaso uhaa gaye bina na chale...."

Hearing these words... Shri Govardhan Nathji started laughing and said... " Kumbhansdaas !! What you said above represents that You have Maha Alaukik bhav in me.... This is the reason i am not able to leave you even for a "kxhan"

After that both started walking towads mount Govardhan... Meanwhile they reached Govind Kund.. Both of them heard "Shankh naad". Shri Govardhan nathji went back in the mandir... Both of them went togrther till "Aanyor"
And Shri Kumbhandaasji went mount Govardhan...... in mandir.....And was blessed with the divine darshan of Shri Govardhan Nathji.

Govind swami's prasang also has a similar incident.... Thus confirming that both Kumbhandasji and Govindswami (Govinddasji) were bestowed with Sakhya bhakti.

Shreenathji and Govindswami were playing and darshans were about to begin... the mandir bells sounded and Shreenathji jumped from the tree - his uparna got caught in the tree and tore... and Shri Gusaiji saw the torn uparna.... this incident made Gusaiji start the "rule" of waiting for certain number of seconds/minutes and sounding the bell/shankh certain number for times before sounding the bell...

On another occassion - Govindswami and Shreenathji were returning from the fields and the bell sounded to indicate the raj bhog aarti - to this Govindswami thought/mentioned - Shreenathji is with me, whose arti are they performing and to whom have they offered bhog.
When they reached the mandir, Govindswami requested Shri Gusaiji to re-offer the aarti and bhog, etc.

Ek samay shri gusaiji ke paas kumbhandasji baithe hatey aur sagre vaishnav hu baithe hatey. So shri Gusaiji aap hasi ke puche...
"Kumbhandas, tihare beta kitney hai. ???"
Tab kumbhandasji ne shri gusaiji so kahyo...
"Maharaj, beta to mere dedh hai..."

Tab shri gusaiji kahe... "humne to 7 beta suney hai, aur tum dedh beta kahe, tako karan kaha. ???"
Tab kumbhandasji ne kahyo..
"Maharaj, yo to 7 beta hai, ta me 5 to laukik asakt hai. Ve beta kahe ke hai. ???
Aur puro ek beta to Chaturbhujdas hai. Aur aadho beta krushnadas hai. So shri govardhanathji ki gaayan ki seva karat hai.


Taha sandeh hoi gaayan ki seva to sarvopari hai. Aur gaayan ki seva kiye te bauhot vaishnav shri thakurji ko paaye hai. To kumbhandasji krushnadasji ko aadho beta kyo kahe. ???
Taha kahat hai... shri acharyaji aap yaha pushtimarg pragat kiye hai, so vraj jan ko bhav roop marg hai.
So bhagwadiya gaaye hai... " seva riti - priti vraj jan ki jan hit jag pragtai..."
So vraj jan ki kaha riti hai...???
Shri thakurji ki sannidhan me to seva kare, so swarup anand ko anubuav kari sanyog ras ne magna rahe.
Aur shri thakurji gaucharan arth vraj me padhare tab vrajbhaktan viyog ras ko anubhav kari gaan kare.
So ya prakar saiyog aur viyog dono ko anubhav so "puro" vaishnav hoi.
Aur ja me ek na hoi, so aadho vaishnav hai.

Aur chaturbhujdasji saiyog aur viyog ke anubhavyukt seva karat hai.
Taso kumbhandasji krushnadasji ko adho beta kahe, aur Chaturbhujdasji ko puro beta kahe.
