Uhm. Was it for the reason that King Kalind had laid eyes on Yamna Maharaniji or am I going completely down the wrong track? Vaishnavs please help?

Shree Yamunaji met river Gangaji at Prayag but stopped Her jouney here. From Prayag river Gangaji travels onwards and eventually joins Sheer Sagar (the Great Ocean). Shree Yamunaji regards Shree Krishna as Her husband and that is why She stopped and did not continue her jouney. If She continued Her journey then would eventually merge into Sheer Sagar and Shree Yamunaji did not want to do that. As far as I know Shree Yamunaji is the only river that does not merge with Sheer Sagar.

Pushtidasji, is this the reason Shree Yamunaji stopped Her journey at Prayag? Is Shree Yamunaji the only river which does not merge into the ocean? Thoroughly enjoying your postings. Looking forward to the next one.

That answer was correct Nirupaji. Just one observation, and that is the ocean you mentioned as "Sheer Sagar" is not on Bhutal. This sagar is in Golok Dham (Kunj).

I am sure you meant Bhutal Sagar. Do you know which sea Gangaji joins on earth? Can anyone name this sea?

Sagar Island, placed in the Bay of Bengal at the mouth of the Hooghly, is considered the point where the Gangaji joins the sea. It is also a place of great sanctity. Every year, on Makar Sankranti day (mid-January), the Ganga Sagar mela is held on this island. A holy dip at this time ensures divine forgiveness for all wrongdoing.

Is Shree Yamuna river the only river which does not meet the sea?

Nirupaji, it is hard to list these rivers as many river dry off before even resch the sea. There was a River named Kalveri which did not reach the sea and dried.

Here is the next posting on 41 pada, read with Yamunaji's grace which has bestowed on us so that we could do satsang on her.

Shree Yamunaji has an alokik husband, Thakorji. She is His Svaminiji and because of this she did not accept a Bhutal Husband. For if she was to continue the journey with Gangaji and to merge with the waters of the sea then it would be like accepting a lokik husband. Gangaji carried on but Yamunaji stopped at Prayag.

Although she journeyed through the torrent of forest, mountains and flowed till she reached Prayag, she only kept her alokik spiritual form of Pushti swaroop in Vraj-mandal. So Vishram-ghat in Mathura, Govind Ghat in Gokul, Thakurani Ghat and other Vraj-mandal places through which she flows, in these Ghats she is known as alokik Bhagvad-Svaminiji swaroop. The rest of the other places apart from Vraj-mandal she is known as Bhagvad ansa Devi Swaroop, and on these places she is worshipped as spiritual form of river Goddess, the Devi. The Devi swaroop is also known as Mariyada swaroop. And this is how Shree Yamunaji appeared as River (sarita) swaroop on the earth.

It has been noted that when Shree Yamunaji first graced the earth as sarita swaroop, she flowed as a two tier parallel rivers. However, over the years human habitation and pollution has become the cause of her dwindling into its present form of single flow (dhara) river. This is the one tier river darshan we do when we go to Ghats.

When she flowed as two tier-rivers, the two dhara, one dhara suddenly started flowing towards valley (tadety) of Girirajji close to the village of Jamunavata. From here she continued her journey towards Agra. It was here Yamunaji’s dhara joined together. We could see the sands and sots in the form of ‘amand renu’ (amand=plentiful, renu=sand)at the bottom of Shree Girirajji Mountain. The locals used to call this area as Yamuna-vata-renu-dham. And over the years the name started to dwindle into its short form as Jamunavata. In this land now we have a village. The village is named as Jamunavata.

The land between two dhara rivers was known as ‘Dwipa’. Sanskrit and Gujarati word for Island is “Dwipa”. As this Dwipa was surrounded by Yamunaji’s water (river), the place became a sanctuary for sages for their meditation. The very first sage, who came to this Dwipa, was Rushi (sage) Parashar. This Dwipa, it is believed, got its name as Parasoli, named after Parashar rushi. Parashar Rushi was the father of Ved Vyasji. Parashar also did a very rigorous meditation on this Dwipa.

In Saraswatkalpa, Parasoli was the adi Vranda-vana, the old Vranda-vana. The old Vranda-vana is that historical place where many raas-leela took place and many Bhaktas have experienced Krishna leela on this patch of land. It is a very spiritual land and many songs and Kirtans have been created to sing the glory of Maiya (Shree Yamunaji). There are also quite a few Kirtans which describes Parasoli Village and the two tier river. This is how we could deduce that Yamunaji did flow as two tier rivers.

Thakorji was depicted as two different swaroop, one in Mathura and the other in Gokul, one as Dharma and the other as Dharmi, similarly Yamunaji also appeared as Dharmi swaroop of Svaminiji swaroop in Jamunavata village. Shree Vrushbhan Gope, father of Shree Radhaji, had eight brothers, this way there were nine Bhanu. Shree Yamunaji was born in Bhanu family. She became daughter of Bhanu Gope on 6th day of Chaitra Sood. She was known as Bhanutanaiya. Tanaiya mean daughter of.

Incidentally, do you know how many Nands were there? (How many brothers did Nandji have?)

Yamunaji has many other swaroop. We have seen her as Bhanutanaiya. In Garga Samhita in the section called Madhuriya Khanda, chapter nineteen, there are one thousand different names listed under the title of ‘Shree Yamuna naam stotra’. These names are also known as ‘Nitya Sidha Naam’ which many Bhaktas recite as their daily chores. Anyway, I will post few names from this list.

They are:
1. Kalindi
2. Yamuna
3. Krushna
4. Krushna roopa
5. Krushna Vama
6. Vranda
7. Laxmi
8. Mathura-tirtha Vasini
9. Ganga
10. Krishna deh samudbhava
11. Rama
12. Bhagvati
13. Parvati
14. Chandika
15. Ambika
16. Chatubhuja
17. Ashtabhuja
18. Garudarudha
19. Gopiswari
20. Vaishnaivi
21. Vishnu Vallabha
22. Janki Mata
23. Dhruva Pujita and many other names.

When looking at these names it is obvious that Shree Yamunaji is a real Vishnu Shakti. She is the power which Vishnu had showered on her. Due to her shakti (power) she is worshipped as different forms at different places along her banks and other pilgrimage places.

What is mentioned in Garga Samhita is also reflected in Shreemad Bhagvatam. In Shreemad Bhagvatam, before Shree Leela Purshottam Shree Krishna’s Pradurbhava (appearance), Yog-Maya appeared in Gokul at Nand Baba’s palace (known as Nandalaya) and Shree Vasudevji exchanged Jog-Maya and left Krishna in her place. He took her in Karagraha (the jail) where King kansa heard her cry, killed her. But as she was Krishna’s Yog-Maya, she escaped as a form of Ashta-bhuja into complexity of the dark sky. As she escaped with piercing cry, she warned Villain King Kansa about Krishna, his slayer, is alive in Gokul.

After that it is noted that lord Krishna had promised Yog-Maya that she will be worshipped as Ambika, Chandika etc. The names mentioned by Shree Krishna are also noted in Garga Samhita, so one can deduce that these are the names of Shree Yamunaji and it was Yog-Maya who was a swaroop of Yamunaji. According to Shreemad Bhagvatam and Garga Samhita in India Shree Yamunaji is a Shakti roop and she resides in many places as different avatar of Shakti Devi. She is worshiped as ‘naam roop bhed swaroop’. That means all the Shakti Devi, the goddesses of power and vigor is Yamuna Maharaniji.

During Samudra Manthan, the swaroop of Mohini appeared and played a prominent part in the distribution of Jar full of nectar. This swaroop also is of Shree Yamunaji, this is described in Garga Samhita and also a book by Shree Ravji Patel, the title of his book is ‘Namo Devi Yamunai.’ In this book he wrote that according to Garga Samhita and Shreemad Bhagvatam, in Bharat (India) in all Shakti-pitha (the temples of Shakti Devi) will be worshipped and we do see this when we look at all these places, we see Yamunaji’s many Shakti swaroop being worshipped.

Here is the list of some of the Yamunaji’s swaroop being worshipped in various part of India:

1. Goddess Durga in Kashi
2. Goddess Bhadkali in Ujjaiyini
3. Goddess Vijiya in Orisa
4. Goddess Vaishnavi Devi in Kolhapur
5. Goddess Chandika, Goddess Krushna and Goddess Madhavi in Asam
6. Goddess Kaniyaka, Goddess Maya and Goddess Sharda in Kaniyakumari.
7. Goddess Goddess Narayani in Utter Pradesh.
8. Goddess Vrandadevi, Goddess Sanketdevi and Ambikadevi are see worshipped Forest of Vrandava.

The above is also found in Shreemad Bhagvatji.

Here further insight on why Shree Yamunaji is so prominant swaroop in Pushti-marga.

Shree Yamunaji is also known as Ras-raj. This is the name given to Yamunaji as Rasik Shiromani Shree Krishna after raas-leela used to sweat a lot. As this sweat is alokik (spiritual) it is called shrama-jal. This shrama-jal is full of raas-leela ras and after Raas-leela Krishna used to swim in Shree Yamunaji with all the raas Parikar (team, Gopis) also joined him so Vraj Bhakta and Krishna’s shrama-jal ras was washed into Shree Yamunaji’s and the holy water is now saturated with the raas leela ras. This is the reason Yamunaji is called Ras-raj.
Hence we sing:

Oh my God, what a knockout. Now thinking on the subject of her actual swaroop it does put things in perspective. As her swaroop is Alhadini Krupa- Shakti swaroop not forgetting the fact that Svaminiji resides within her as sarita swaroop, it would be logical that all the shakti swaroops are Shree Yamunaji’s forms.

To my knowledge the above stanza is depicted from the Yamnastakam, which is part of the 16 treaties of Shodash Granth. It is possible through Shree Yamunaji’s grace to obtain closeness with Krishna; hence I assume it’s the first strotra that was written by Shree Mahaprabuji.
