Jai Shri Krishna

Thank you Sitalji. I apologise for the delay in this posting.

Next pad describes the qualities of Shri Yamunaji.

Pad 6

Shri Yamunasi naahi aur kou daataa,
Jo eenki sharan jaat hai dorke, taahiko tihi chinu kar sanaathaa. ||1||

Yehi gungaan raskhan rasnaa ek. Sahastra rasnaa kyo na daee vidhaataa
Govind prabhu tan, man, dhan vaarne sabhiko jeevan eenke ju haathaa. ||2||

Vivechan:
A devotee may be rich or poor. He may not know anything or may not have any means. He may not have the extreme intensity and intense desire for Shri Thakorji either. In any case, if a devotee surrenders to Shri Yamunaji then She bestows Her grace on him. She removes all the faults of the devotee and places that devotee in the Lotus feet of Shri Thakorji at that very moment. By the grace of Shri Yamunaji, a devotee can experience the love of Shri Thakorji.

Shri Yamunaji’s qualities are innumerable. She is ocean of bliss, very doting on the devotee, has amazing incomparable powers and can be very easily pleased. A blessed devotee’s heart is filled with love for Shri Yamunaji. He continuously sings Her praises but is not content. “How can I sing about so many qualities with one tongue?” – such feelings overwhelm him. In such a state of ecstasy, he thinks that I need thousands of tongues. If each atom of my body transforms into a tongue then I can sing Her praises with all of them. What I can do now? I surrender this body, mind and wealth, everything to you. Govinddasji further adds that truly Shri Yamunaji is in charge of the bliss experienced by the devotees. Not just devotees, even Shri Thakorji’s blissful form is dependent on Shri Yamunaji

This devotee gets initiated towards the mysterious leelas. This is described in 7th pad.

Jai Shri Krishna

Thank you Sunitaji. Please read below the explanation on seventh pad.

Shri Yamunaji can enable the devotee to obtain Shri Thakorji’s lotus feet. When a devotee engrosses in the love for Shri Yamunaji and surrenders everything to Her then Shri Yamunaji bestows this devotee with the experience of blissful leelas in his heart. This grace is depicted by Govinddasji in this pad.

Pad 7

Shri Yamuna jas jagat mein joee gave,
Taake aadhin vhe rahat hai pranpati, nen aru ben mein ras ju chhaave. ||1||

Ved puraan te baat yah agam hai, prem ko bhed kou naa pave,
Kahat Govind Shri Yamuneki jaa par krupaa, soi ShriVallabh kul sharan aave. ||2||

Vivechan:

A devotee can obtain or please Shri Thakorji by singing praises of Shri Yamunaji’s amazing leelas. But which leela is such that when a devotee sings its glories, Shri Thakorji is very pleased and becomes dependent (aadhin) on the devotee? These leelas are experienced only by the intimate devotees. When a devotee sings glories of these intimate leelas then Shri Thakorji resides in his heart. Such a devotee’s eyes and heart are filled with divine love and bliss.

Such leela is described in the following pad of Krushnadaasi.

Shri Yamunaaji ko dhyaan mohe dhyaan deejiye
Shri Mahaaraanijo ko dhyaan mohe dhyaan deejiye ||1||

Nand ko laal sadaa yah var maangat sab gopin ko mohe daas keejiye
Krushnadaasni kahe yah ras nen bhar peejiye ||2||

Meaning of the above pad: I meditate on Shri Yamunaji who has granted boon to the gopis that Krushna, son of Nandraiji will be your husband. I meditate on Shri Yamunaji from whom even Shri Thakorji asks for boon. O queen of queens, please bestow your grace on me and grant me the humility attained by the gopis. If such humility is achieved then only the bliss can be experienced. Only then Shri Thakorji can enjoy the bliss that appears in the heart of such devotees. Krushnadaasi says that ultimate bliss flows at the time of such leela. Absorb it with your eyes as much as possible.

Let us look at another kirtan sung at Hindola time to understand this further.
Shri Yamuna pulin hindoro ropyo kahai hai
Zulan ko vrajbaal sabe mil aayee hai!

Normally, vraj bhakto (devotees) make and decorate the swing and sway Shri Thakorji on the swing. But the speciality of this swing on Shri Yamunaji pulin is that it is made by Shri Thakorji and Shri Thakorji sways the devotees on this swing. Such leela can be experienced only by the grace of Shri Yamunaji.

These mysterious leelas cannot be understood by scriptures such as Vedas and Puranas. This leela indicates the point when Shri Yamunaji surrenders the devotee in the Lotus feet of Shri Thakorji. In this leela Shri Yamunaji thinks of the happiness of Shri Thakorji but at the same time also She is also thinking about the happiness of Her devotees. Really who can fathom Her love for devotees! This is the climax of Her grace bestowed on the devotee.

A soul takes refuge in Shri Vallabh kul only when Shri Yamunaji has bestowed Her grace. Right from that first step of taking shelter of ShriVallabhkul to the climax experience of the most amazing leelas, Shri Yamunaji guides the devotee with utmost love, care and kindness. Her character is truly amazing. It is no wonder that Shri Thakorji belongs to such a blessed devotee in the same way that He belongs to gopis.

Jai Shri Krishna

Thank you Sitalji and Sunitaji. It is grace of Hari-Guru-Vaishnav. I am merely a translator.

In this pad, Govinddasji has described the glories of Shri Yamunaji’s name.

Pad 8

Charan-pankaj-renu ShriYamune ju denee
Kaliyug jeev uddhaaran kaaran, kaatat paap ab dhaar penee. ||1||

Praanpati, praan sut, aaye bhaktan hit, sakal sukhkee tum ho ju shreni,
Govind prabhu binaa rahat nahee ek chhinu, ati hee aatur chanchal ju nenee. ||2||

Vivechan:

When a devotee has established unmovable love for Shri Yamunaji, then he attains humility (deenata). This devotee chants Shri Yamunaji’s name and prays to Her as follows:

“O Shri Yamunaji! Please grace us in order for us to attain dust from Shri Thakorji’s lotus feet (charan-raj). In this kaliyug, you are the only saviour. You are the one who removes the obstacles on the devotion path. We have nothing; no knowledge, no skills and no wealth. We do not even know any ways to obtain your grace. But you are so kind that you uplift even the most worthless soul who takes refuge in you. Only by your grace, we can obtain a divine body (aloukik deh) by which we can perform the seva of Shri Thakorji.”

Since the time when the souls were separated from Shri Thakorji, Shri Yamunaji has also resided on this earth for their upliftment. Yugal swaroop could not endure Her exertion hence they appeared on the earth in the forms of Shrinathji, Shri Mahaprabhuji and Shri Gusaiji to aid in Her task.

When a devotee gets the charan-raj, he is also given a divine body. Then this devotee is also blessed with the various siddhis such as abilities to see and experience the leelas.

She is so eager to bless the devotee with this sukh that She does not leave Shri Thakorji even for a moment. Govinddasji says that when Shri Thakorji sees this keenness and love for the devotees in the beautiful lotus eyes of Shri Yamunaji then He immediately fulfils the desires of the devotees.

The soul becomes a dedicated devotee only by grace of Shri Yamunaji. Shri Yamunaji cares for devotees as a mother and that is the reason, Shri Yamuna Maharaniji is known as Yamunamaiya.

Bolo Shyaam Sundar Yamune Maharani ki jai!

When one is ready to perform the seva of Shri Thakorji (aparas karyaa pachhee), one should chant the shlok “Mamaastu tav sannidhou…” and think of Shri Yamunaji. This will please Her and make our body suitable to perform seva. This will also increase our love for Shri Thakorji and make us humble. If we attain this, our seva will be adhi-daivik.

Jai Shri Krishna

Thanks Sunitaji and Sitalji. I apologise for the delay in posting.

Pads 1 to 8 describe how Yamunamaiya grants divine love to Her devotees. Next 8 pads describe dedicated attachment (aasakti). In this pad, Chhitswamiji has narrated the beautiful form of Shri Yamunaji.

Pad 9

Dhayke jaay jo Shri Yamunaji teere,
Taakee mahima ab kaha lag baraniye, jaay parasat ang prem-neere. ||1||

Nisdinaa keli karat Manmohan, piyaa sang bhaktankee he ju bheere,
Chhitswamee Giridharan Shree Vitthal, een binaa nek nahee dharat dheere. ||2||

Vivechan:
Yamunamaiya perfoms wonderful leelas. Her kindness and love are beyond description. She turns the various saadhans (ways) of the devotee into the fal (fruit). The devotee who remembers Her with love, takes Her water (jal) with utmost respect and affection is blessed.

Shri Mahaprabhuji is pleased with the devotee who chants Yamunamaiya’s name with great faith and urge. He resides in the devotee’s heart as the fire of separation (virahaagni). Then the beautiful form of Yamunamaiya described in Yamunashatakam appears in such devotee’s heart. Shri Thakorji pleased with such devotee grants the darshan of His various leelas.

Shri Tahkorji and Shri Yamunaji are continuosly engaged in leelas. Such devotee does not need to go anywhere. Even he cannot go to Vraj, he gets the darshan of beautiful leelas whereever he is.

Jai Shri Krishna

Thank you Sunitaji. In this pad, Chhitswamiji sings about Yamunamaiya’s leelas.

Pad 10

Jaa much te Shri Yamune yah naam aave,
Taa par krupa kare shri Vallabh prabhu, soee Shri Yamunajiko bhed pave ||1||

Tan man dhan sab laal giridharan ke, deke charan jab chitt laave,
Chhitswami Giridhar Shri Vitthal, nenan prakat leela dikhaave ||2||

Vivechan:
When a devotee reaches the state of dedicated attachment, then he attains darshan of the leelas. The seva performed by this devotee becomes adhi-daivik.

One of the meanings of the word “Yamuna” indicates Yamunaji’s qualities and leelas. In sanskrut “yam” means to take closer, to aid in attain. Shri Yamunaji takes daivi souls closer to Thakorji, finally ensuring that the devotees have received the eternal bliss.

Shri Mahaprabhuji has written Yamunashtakam strotra, such a wonderful prayer to Shri Yamunaji for us. When a devotee recites Her name with unmovable faith, Mahaprabhuji blesses the devotee by enlightening Yamunamaiya’s form and qualities to him.

A devotee who has surrendered everything (body, mind and soul) to Thakorji, has taken refuse in His lotus feet, is able to observe various leelas.

Jai Shri Krishna

Thank you Vasantji. I will add translation for one more pad. You are free to change your favourite Laughing

Pad 11

Dhanya Shri Yamune nidhi denhaaree,
Karat gun-gaan, agyaan-agh door kar; jay milavat piy praan pyaari ||1||

Jin kou sandeh karo, baat chitt mein dharo, pushti path anusaro, sukh ju kaari;
Prem ke punj mein, raas-ras kunj mein, taahee raakhat, ras-rang bhaaree ||2||

Shri Yamune aroo praan pati, praan aroo praan sut, chahu jan jeev par dayaa vichaaree;
Chhitswami giridharan shri vitthal, preet ke liye ab sang dhaaree. ||3||

Vivechan:

Chhitswamiji describes Yamunamaiya’s qualities in this pad.

There may be devotees who cannot perform any seva at home owing to various constraints and adverse situations. Such devotees should still pray to Shri Yamunaji. Shri Yamunaji is so compassionate that She uplifts Her devotees even if they offer only prayers to Her. She will still bestow them with the boon of Shri Thakorji. We have many shortcomings, mainly caused by our ignorance. This leads to us not being able to develop pure love for Shri Thakorji and thus do not get to experience the pure bliss. Shri Yamunaji removes all these obstacles if the devotee prays to Her with humility. Truly, Her qualities are beyond words.

There is no doubt that one who follows the path of loving devotion with unwavering faith, attains eternal bliss. The one who takes refuge in Her lotus feet surely attains Yugal Swaroop. She forgives countless mistakes of the devotees. Even the most serious offences are pardoned by Her by singing Her praises with true heart. The love in the hearts of the gopis is endless. Shri Thakorji accepts this love and performs various leelas with them. This bliss congregates and appears in various places in the Golok-Dham such as in raas-leela. Shri Yamunaji places the devotees in these places full of bliss.

Shri Yamunaji, Shri Nathji, Shri Mahaprabhuji and Shri Gusaiji; all these four forms incarnated on the earth owing to infinite mercy on the divine souls. Shri Mahaprabhuji and Shri Gusaiji performed aasur-vyamoh leela but Shri Yamunaji is still residing on this earth for the upliftment of the divine souls. Chhitswamiji says that Shri Yamunaji has unbound love for the separated divine souls. This is the reason why ShriNathji has also stayed with Her on the earth.

Jai Shri Krishna

Chhitswamiji says in this pad that if a devotee is not able to sing praises of Shri Yamunaji, he can still be uplifted by merely chanting Her name.

Pad 12

Gun apaar, much ek, kaha lo kahiye,
Tajo saadhan bhajo naam Shri Yamunaji ko; laal giridharanvar tab hi paiye. ||1||

Param punit preet kee reet sab jaan ke, dadh kari charan-kamal ju grahiye;
Chhitswami giridharan shri vitthal, aisi nidhi chhaandi ab kaha ju jaiye. ||2||

Vivechan:
The wonderful qualities of Shri Yamunaji are innumerable and there is only one mouth to describe all of them. Therefore, it is not possible to elaborate on each quality. This being the reason, a devotee should not worry even if he is not able to do any seva or sing Her praises. If nothing else is possible, a devotee can please Shri Yamunaji by just chanting Her name with devotion. Shri Yamunaji will then ensure that this devotee has attained the Lotus feet of Shri Thakorji.

Yamunamaiya loves Her devotees unconditionally. Knowing this, it is the responsibility of the devotees to take shelter in Her feet. The one who has firm faith in Her, has nothing else left to be done. She does not expect anything else from Her devotee either. She uplifts Her devotees by Her immense grace. When Shri Yamunaji blesses a devotee, he can experiences immense love of Shri Yamunaji in his heart. By Her grace, he develops dedicated attachment (aasakti) to Her lotus feet.
